Accreditation

Car club accreditation

CoMoUK accredits car club operators to provide clarity and reassurance via an agreed set of standards. This saves repetition of work for both authorities and operators and boosts confidence in the sector.

The criteria have been carefully chosen to provide a robust framework whilst not stifling innovation.

Our accreditation schemes have been developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders. This forms part of the membership package available to operators who currently run or wish to run schemes in the UK.

Accreditation is reviewed annually via consultation with all stakeholders.

Apply for accreditation

There are three standards of accreditation: full; small and specialised schemes; and provisional.

  • All operators operating in the UK will require full accreditation
  • Basic level accreditation is for small and specialised schemes, with operations of fewer than 50 vehicles (see the accreditation criteria for details)
  • Provisional accreditation is for operators wishing to apply for opportunities in the UK market

CoMoUK recommends that operators with provisional accreditation should be considered alongside those with full accreditation to run schemes. This ensure the market is kept open and fosters innovation and competition. With provisional accreditation, CoMoUK carries out the same checks on new entrants as full accreditation with the exception of items required at launch, such as a current insurance policy, tailored operational plans or UK website updates.

CoMoUK requires all outstanding documentation to be provided to convert to full accreditation within 60 days of receipt of a Memorandum of Understanding/contract or launch, whichever is sooner. CoMoUK can provide local authorities with an annex to the accreditation certificate which outlines the outstanding actions which are required to secure full accreditation.

If you wish to apply, please download, complete and submit the relevant accreditation criteria and application form.

This document describes our complaint procedure. All stakeholders are welcome to raise a complaint on any aspect of accreditation with CoMoUK at any time.

Note: it is only the car club portion of Hiyacar that we accredit. This is a fleet of cars it operates amidst its wider peer-to-peer car sharing platform.

Provisionally accredited car clubs

There are no provisionally accredited car clubs at this time.
