Member Spotlight: Kendall Cars – from family vehicle hire to shared mobility

Kendall Cars has been providing access to vehicles since 1969. Still family-run into its third generation, the company now operates 14 branches across the South East and London, with a fleet of over 1,500 vehicles, making it one of the region’s most established independent hire operators.

Now, as a newly accredited CoMoUK member, Kendall Cars is applying decades of operational expertise to shared mobility through the launch of Kendall Go, its dedicated car club service.

Why car clubs, and why now

This is not a shift in direction, but a natural evolution. Kendall Cars has long focused on providing access to vehicles without the need for ownership; Kendall Go extends that offer to shorter, everyday journeys.

The service has launched in Wandsworth and New Malden, where demand for flexible, pay-as-you-go transport is increasing, but provision remains relatively limited.

The fleet consists of small five-door hatchbacks, available in both manual and automatic, chosen for their practicality and suitability for urban use. Vehicles can be booked by the hour or day via a dedicated app and are located within local neighbourhoods for convenient
access.

What sets Kendall Go apart

While many car club operators are technology-led businesses developing fleet capability over time, Kendall Cars brings an alternative perspective: an experienced fleet operator applying established expertise to a new model.

This provides a strong operational foundation, with reliable, well-maintained vehicles supported by existing infrastructure and local knowledge.

Early growth is being supported through a refer-a-friend programme, encouraging community-level adoption while maintaining a cost-effective approach to scaling the service.

The ambition is to complement public transport in outer London boroughs, where car dependency remains relatively high but full-time ownership is becoming less practical supporting more efficient use of road space and parking.

What’s next

Kendall Cars is exploring opportunities to expand Kendall Go across additional locations within its existing network, focusing on areas where car clubs can deliver clear benefits to local communities.

Kendall Cars is pleased to have achieved CoMoUK accreditation and looks forward to working with partners across the shared mobility sector as it continues to grow.
